For example:
Sometimes the person you want to talk to isn't in. Sometimes the person you want to talk to will not answer the phone himself. What do you have to say when that happens?
Assignment
- Prepare questions and sentences you can use when this happens.
- Form groups of six students.
- Each student prepares at least three different situations on separate cards: the name of the person he wants to talk to and a question to ask ('When can I expect my goods?', for instance). In other words: describe the reason for calling.
- Each student also writes down three different problems in different cards.
For example:
- Mr so and so, is in a meeting.
- He is not in today.
- He is ill, I can’t tell you when he will be back again.
- Mr so and so in on a business trip. He won't be returning for another three weeks!
- Etc.
- Put these cards on two piles (stapels). The situations will be cards A, the problems will be B.
- The caller takes a card from stack A. What are you going to say when you hear that the person you want to talk to is not in?
- The person receiving the call takes a card from stack B.
- Both caller and recipient are going to act out this phone call; preferably (bij voorkeur) with their backs against each other. The others will be listening and can give tips afterwards.
